In memoriam — Manina Terzidou

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Manina Terzidou, Head of the Greek Reitox national focal point. Manina was a long-time colleague and friend of the EMCDDA and made a huge contribution to our work. She will always remain in our hearts. Season’s greetings and warm wishes for a safe and healthy 2022

In 2021, the EMCDDA embarked on a new five-year Roadmap under its Strategy 2025 and an ambitious programme to contribute to a healthier and more secure Europe. We entered this new phase amid considerable uncertainty, as COVID-19 continued to run its course.   When I reflect on the past 12 months, I feel proud of the way in which the EMCDDA team has embraced new digital and hybrid ways of working, with great agility and a spirit of innovation. 20.12.2021

New EMCDDA miniguide on responding to opioid-related deaths highlights approaches and evidence that can help save lives

Health and social responses to opioid-related deaths are explored in a new EMCDDA miniguide launched today. Western Balkans: IPA7 project advisory committee takes stock of progress and looks ahead to 2022

The advisory committee of the EMCDDA’s Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA7) project held its second meeting today to discuss the state of play of the project (1). Funded by the EU, IPA7 aims to increase evidence on the drug situation in six Western Balkan partners (2), familiarise them with EU policies and working methods and prepare them for participating in the work of the EMCDDA. IPA7 was launched in July 2019 and will run until the end of 2022. 07.12.2021

European Commissioner Johansson and EMCDDA Director Goosdeel visit Belgian National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology

European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson will visit the Belgian National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology (NICC), in Brussels today, accompanied by Alexis Goosdeel, Director of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA). The delegation will be welcomed by NICC Director-General, Dr Pierre Van Renterghem.
